Khaleej Times: al-Bayanouni: Muslim brothers will not take Iraqi approach to Syria
Syria, Politics, 2/17/2006
Khaleej Times reported that "The Muslim Brotherhood in Syria said they will not support external intervention in the country in spite of its bitter relationship with the Syrian regime. We work inside Syria and communicate directly with the people of Syria. We do not accept an Iraqi style solution to the problems in Syria, asserted Ali Sadrudin Al Bayanouni, the leader of the group."
Khaleej Times said "According to the law No. 49, which is still valid, any person joining the Muslim Brotherhood is liable to be punished by execution. Even as pressure is mounting on the Bashar regime from outside, it insists on its hostile approach to the banned Islamic outfit."
Khaleej Times said "Al Bayanouni said that they were talking to the Baath regime for the last 40 years, but the regime was determined to continue its policy of repression against the outfit. We are ready to cooperate with the regime, but on the condition that it initiates the much delayed political reforms, particularly in the sphere of human rights, in which it has a notorious record, he underlined."
