Nasrullah considered al-Hariri assassination anniversary statements as pushing Lebanon to the civil war
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 2/17/2006
The secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah party Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah in statements said in short that he links the issue of keeping his party's weapons or dismantling it to the future of the settlement in the Middle east.
Nasrullah said on Thursday in a speech he delivered on the "martyrdom" anniversary of his predecessor Sheikh Abbas al-Musawi, that the issue of linking Hizbullah weapons to settlement was made by the former Lebanese prime minister Rafik al-Hariri, noting that misunderstanding of this issue was a result of a report broadcast by al-Manar channel on the assassination anniversary of al-Hariri.
In the ceremony which was attended by Lebanese ministers and the representative of Hamas in Lebanon, Osama Hamdan, Nasrullah stressed that "the resistance, which preserved Lebanon, will continue to be sacred as well as the weapons which liberated the lands," noting that the weapons of his army had been since the first day "national and not Shiite."
In reaction to earlier statements made by Walid Junblat in which he accused Hizbullah of serving the Syrian- Iranian alliance, Nasrullah said "If we were forced to join alliances, we will choose the alliance that stands against Israel and the USA."
The leader of Hizbullah accused Damascus's opponents who delivered speeches on the Hariri anniversary on Tuesday of pushing the country to a civil war calling on the government of the prime minister Fouad Sinioura to explain its position.
