SYEA honors business spirit pioneers at al-Kalamoun university
Syria, Education, 2/16/2006

Encouraging entrepreneurial thinking among higher education students in Syria is getting a boost from a program to show the challenges involved in entrepreneurial endeavors.

The Syrian Young Entrepreneurs Association (SYEA) held a celebration on February 13 at Damascus university's Rida Saeed hall for conferences in honor of outstanding students at the private al-Kalamoun university.

SYEA adopts projects and plans proposed by entrepreneur students from various Syrian universities and intermediate institutes, who were not confined to their set curricula, rather embarked on business plans for small work projects in various business sectors.

During the celebration a competition on a best business plan was announced providing for attracting entrepreneurship ideas for innovative and applicable projects in various business sectors in Syria.

The celebrations started with presentations of work plan by the students and announcement on launching the best work plan in Syria. Then a reception was followed

SYEA member Hani Trabishi underlined the importance of SYEA's new initiative as the honored students are members in the first academic class for running mall and pioneer projects at al-Kalamoun university and in Syria.

He added that what is remarkable in the experience is that students used all their skills and information they had received in other classes in business administration, besides the honored students had collaborated with students of other faculties and integrated their experiences in a way proved the significance of team efforts.

Trabishi explained that this new experience showed the many problems are facing entrepreneurship in Syria. A fact which makes it imperative for SYEA to collaborate with all universities as well as with both the public and private sectors, especially with banks, in order to develop the concept of improving entrepreneurship methodology in Syria.

He concluded that this experience had switched concepts of youths who have been searching for job opportunities in Syrian companies or traveling abroad searching for it, as they are now able to create optimum conditions favorable for their own projects.
