UAE fears radioactive leaks from Iran Bushaher reactor
United Arab Emirates-Iran, Politics, 2/16/2006
The United Arab Emirates UAE minister of interior Sheikh Seif Bin Zayed al-Nahyan said on Wednesday that the nuclear radiation danger reflected by the Iranian nuclear Bushaher reactor is of the "sort that can not be predicted nor practically avoided, and no international sides that can give any kind of tangible guarantees to this effect," noting that his country is working to depend on expertise of countries specialized in this regard.
Sheikh Seif added that remote sensing measures, with all its types, do not help prevent any kind of radioactive leaking that can occur in this reactor, due to the tremendous speeds that a nuclear cloud would move if there was a problem, and the reaction time would be only "measured in seconds."
The UAE minister said that his country "works continuously to make use of experiments of countries that underwent similar experiences like NATO member states which were obliged to face the catastrophe of the Russian nuclear reactor radioactive leak in Chernobyl in 1986.
