Sharaa sworn in as Syria's new Vice President

Syria's veteran regime hardliner Farouq al-Sharaa was sworn in as vice-president on Wednesday four days after a major government reshuffle by President Bashar al-Assad.
Fourteen new ministers in the cabinet of Prime Minister Naji Otri also took the oath of office before Assad, the official SANA news agency said.
SANA added that President al-Assad also presided over a meeting for the Cabinet "in all its members and congratulated the new ministers and expressed them best wishes for their success." The president called on the new ministers "to deepen contacts with citizens and make best use of time and to upgrade performance and productivity."
SANA continued that al-Assad stressed the need of preserving achieved results," stressing "coordination between various common activities among ministries and drafting laws and its executive instructions."
Sharaa, foreign minister since 1984, was promoted to the post of vice president in charge of foreign affairs and information in a reshuffle announced on Saturday.
He has been replaced at the foreign ministry by Walid Muaallem, Syria's former ambassador to Washington.
