Iran's 1st VP to visit Syria in near future: embassy source

An informed source at the Iranian embassy in Syria said Monday evening that Iran's First Vice-President Parviz Davoudi is to visit Damascus in the near future.
Speaking to IRNA on condition of anonymity, the source said Davoudi will attend a meeting of the Iran-Syria High Economic Committee which is to take place within the coming days.
The exact date of the meeting has not been disclosed.
The committee's last session, its 4th meeting, was held in Tehran in mid-February 2005. In that session, the two sides signed four cooperation agreements in the economic and cultural fields.
The source further said that the committee's next meeting will be co-chaired by Iran's First Vice-President Davoudi and Syrian Prime Minister Naji al-Ottri.
He also said that before the the two countries' joint committee meets, a meeting of their joint economic commission will take place in the Syrian capital co-chaired by Iran's housing minister Mohammad Saeedi-Kia and Syrian minister of economy and trade Amir Husni Lutfi.
The source said that Davoudi, in his upcoming visit to Syria, will be accompanied by a high-ranking delegation which includes a number of cabinet ministers and senior political as well as economic officials.
According to the source, Iran's ambassador to Damascus Mohammad Hassan Akhtari met with minister Lutfi last week to make arrangements for the upcoming meeting of the Iran-Syria High Economic Committee.
