12 injured in two bomb explosions in Iraq

Concerning field developments in Iraq, attacks and confrontations as well as acts of violence continued in various parts of Iraq.

In Baghdad one mortar shelling fell on Sunday in the Green Zone area which includes the headquarters of the American military leadership and the American and British embassies in addition to the headquarters of the Iraqi government. Witnesses said that smoke columns were seen coming from the area following the explosion on which the American forces said it did not result in losses

Meantime, two members of the Maghaweir force of the Iraqi ministry of interior were killed and other four injured in an attack launched by one man wearing an explosive belt at an inspection point to the south of Baghdad on Sunday. Some 12 persons were injured in two bomb explosions in the center of Baghdad targeting a police vehicle.

In Samera north of Baghdad, unidentified persons kidnapped nine Iranians while visiting holy shrines in the city. In Karkouk north of Baghdad, seven police men were injured in two bomb explosions south of the city, three of them were seriously injured. The police also found the body of one contractor kidnapped on Saturday in the city.

In al-Hweijeh southern west of Karkouk, one doctor was killed and one health employee were injured at the hands of unidentified gunmen.

In Ramadi, the Iraqi police said that several American soldiers were injured when a booby trapped car manned by a suicide bomber went off near one American vehicle near Ana town west of Iraq.
