Syria closes ports for stormy conditions

Syria's Director General of Ports announced Thursday the closure of Syrian ports for the time being as a precautionary measure to turn aside risks of probable naval storm this time.
Commodore Mohsen Hassan told SANA in the coastal area, that main ports in the two governorates of Tartous and Lattakia would be closed until the weather conditions are stable and the sea is back to its normal situation according to naval safety procedures adopted.
The interim closure decision aims to avert naval risks due to an expected storm and to guarantee ships and ferries safety in the regional waters of Syria, he said. Weather forecast expected stormy conditions with rain and snow above 1000 meters in Syria during the upcoming 24 hours.
There are three main ports in Syria, Lattakia, Tartous and Banias.
