Regional-United Arab Emirates, Economics, 2/9/2006
The UAE will host the 77th session of the Arab Social and Economic Council on Feb. 15-17 with the participation of the Arab states' trade and economy ministers.
"The Council will discuss several topics regarding the joint Arab action such as the economic file for the forthcoming Arab summit and the latest developments in the Greater Arab Free Trade Zone and other economic issues," the UAE's Planning and Economy Minister Ms. Lubna al-Qassemi said Tuesday in a statement.
She added that two meetings are scheduled to be held Feb. 8-9 ahead of the ministerial meeting of the Council to discuss means of eliminating non-customs restrictions that block inter-Arab trade exchange.
Al-Qassemi added that the great challenge facing the Arab states is represented by finding common criteria for transparency, legislative and legal structure, as well as providing guarantees for foreign investments and developing the human forces.
She pointed out to the importance of Arab states' support to the private sector opening fields of investments to this sector.
