Israel-India, Military, 2/8/2006
India and Israel signed their first joint agreement to develop weapons with the aim to produce intercepted missile "al-Barq 2" for the marine weapons in the two countries at a cost of 350 million dollars.
"The Indian Exoress daily said that an agreement was reached on January 27th after negotiations lasted for 17 months. A source in the Indian ministry of defense said that the Israeli air industries and laboratories of developing the Indian defensive will produce "al-Barq 2" which can be launched from the deck of naval ships to intercept missiles.
"Al-Barq 2" will replace the two old Russian missiles "O SAM " and Volta 31" which are still adopted by most of the weapons in India.
The Indian consent to take part in producing missiles was made after a series of experiences proved its effectiveness and the possibility of merging it with the Russian Radar system, already adopted by the Indian navy.
