15 Iraqis killed, Iraqi minister escape assassination

Five Iraqis were killed yesterday while the minister of higher education Sami al-Muzaffar escaped an assassination attempt.

A source at the Iraqi ministry of interior said that al-Muzaffar survived an explosion by a booby trapped car when his vehicle was running in Oqba Bon Nafe square in al-Karradh quarters outside the central of Baghdad, but the attack resulted only in killing one civilian and injuring other three including two of his personal guards.

In another attack, the same source said that two Iraqi police men were injured in a bomb explosion when their vehicle was running in al-Wazereyah area north of Baghdad. The source added that another bomb went off under the highway near new Baghdad area to the south of Baghdad resulted in killing one civilian and injuring two others.

In Karkouk security sources explained that Ahmad Abdul Wahab al-Jabouri, a member in one of the local councils in al-Hweijeh district north of Baghdad was killed and one of his guards was injured seriously by a bullet fired by gunmen at his car on Wednesday morning on the main road between Karkouk and al-Hweijeh.
