Hamas invites Fatah to take part in the government
Palestine-Egypt, Politics, 2/8/2006
Amid the continued Israeli military escalation, a delegation representing Hamas movement continued its political moves in Cairo.
The chairman of the movement's parliamentary bloc Ismael Haneya expected that a member of Hamas will assume the presidency of the next Palestinian government, but he indicated that it is premature to specify a person by itself.
Haneya and member of the movement's political bureau Mousa Abu Marzouk were quoted as inviting Fatah to take part in a national unity government to be formed by Hamas.
Haneya confirmed to al-Jazeera TV in Cairo on Monday that the movement, though it is committed to its political programs and principles of the Palestinian people, it is also a realistic and practical movement. He indicated that Hamas may accept a long truce if Israel releases the Palestinian prisoners and stops the police of assassination.
A delegation representing Hamas, led by the chairman of the political bureau, has been holding talks with the Egyptians in Cairo on developments in the Palestinian territories and the formation of the next government, after the movement won the majority in the legislative elections which took place on December 25th, 2005
Al-Jazeera satellite tv said that Hamas's delegation will hold an Arab and Islamic tour to cover Sudan, Turkey, Syria, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in order to explain the movement's policy and seek the support of these sides.
