Danish forces attacked, Iraqi policemen killed

The US army announced the killing of four of its soldiers in two bomb explosions in Anbar governorates west of Iraq.

The army said yesterday that the explosions took place on Monday and Sunday giving no further details.

In another development, a source in the Iraqi police announced the killing of two Iraqi civilians in a bomb explosion to the south of Baghdad. In Basra south of Iraq, four police men included one officer were injured in a bomb explosions targeting a police patrol.

In Karkouk north of Baghdad, one police man was killed and another was injured by gunmen. One Iraqi soldier was killed and two others injured in a roadside bomb in Falluja. In Salman Beck city southern east of Baghdad the police said that two of its members were killed and two injured when one booby trapped car went off at an inspection barrier.

The police said in Baghdad that seven employees were injured as a result of bombardment launched by gunmen by mortars at Doura oil refinery, but the refinery continues working.

In another attack, one Iraqi police man was injured in an attack launched by gunmen at an Iraqi patrol west of Baghdad, according to security sources. One member of the military intelligence was killed in an ambush implanted by gunmen west of Baghdad.

In preparations for the Shiite celebrations of Ashoura anniversary which falls on 10th of the current Hijra month Muharram, the Iraqi authorities tightened its measures in Baghdad and in the two mainly Shiite cities of Karbala and Najaf.

In another development, a source in the presidency of the Danish army said on Monday that Danish soldiers in Iraq were exposed to fire in the southern parts of the country.

The source said that the forces which toll 530 soldiers were exposed to fire and stones thrown at then. The source added that the soldiers defused one explosive implanted in al-Qirna area. It is not clear if this was related to Muslim anger. The UK the Independent reported that "The Islamic Army in Iraq, one of the main insurgent groups, made a blood-curdling call yesterday for violence against citizens of countries where caricatures of the Prophet Mohamed have been published. 'We swear to God, if we catch one of their citizens in Iraq, we will cut him to pieces, to take revenge for Prophet,' it said in an unverified internet statement."


Concerning the file of hostages, the central council for Muslims in Germany proposed a mediation to facilitate the release of the two German engineers kidnapped in Iran, which Berlin does not have information about three days after the end of the grace period set by the kidnappers.
