Egypt-Regional, Politics, 2/6/2006

Heads of state of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi will receive messages from Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak "which include Egypt's appreciation for cooperation by those countries with Egypt for the good of the African continent's people."

Egypt reported that "talks with the three eastern Nile countries Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia scored great progress as an agreement reached concerning 98 percent of items of the institutional legal cooperation framework and only two percent of the pending items will be solved through talks with the rest of Nile Basin countries by laws experts from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia."

Egypt noted "He added that Nile Basin countries ministers will be meeting during the celebration marking world water day in New Mexico for settling differences over the two percent pending items. Ethiopian Water Resources Minister Asfaw Dingamo said that reports made by the Ethiopian newspapers and their attack on Egypt and Sudan concerning Nile waters quotas do not express the views of the Ethiopian government. Sudanese Irrigation Minister Kamal Ali said the historical agreement by the ten Nile Basin countries has become a reality as each country is committing itself to this agreement and that there is an exchanged trust among these Nile Basin countries."
