Turkey, Russia discuss gas line to Lebanon, Israel
Turkey-Russia, Economics, 2/4/2006
The Turkish minister of energy Helmi Guller said on Friday that the pipeline which carried the Russian gas to Turkey will be extended to transfer the Russian gas supplies to Lebanon and Israel.
Guller said after his meeting in Ankara with the director of "the Russian Gas Broom" Alexy Miller that "Potash" which is owned by the Turkish state and "Gas Broom" which both run an undersea pipeline will hold talks to install the pipeline from Samson port on the Black Sea to the Jeihan oil port on the Mediterranean and then to Israel and Lebanon.
He expressed his conviction that the talks about this project will be completed within the two coming months.
Guller indicated that Miller proposed to extend the pipeline west to Greece and then to Italy. He said "we will form a joint company for this project."
Miller proposed building a new pipeline under the Black Sea in order to ensure natural gas exports to Turkey. He said "we consider that Turkey is a reliable partner to transfer the gas to a third country."
