Iran: depriving us of nuclear right will be a historic mistake
Iran-European Union, Politics, 2/3/2006
The head of the Iranian delegation to the IAEA said, "We have always announced our readiness for holding dialogue and according to the rules of logic, all sides are urged to give diplomacy a chance."
Head of Iran's dispatched delegation to IAEA Javad Vaeidi emphasized, "Our government does not welcome resorting to those measures (ending all voluntary suspensions and boycotting the NPT additional protocol), is not willing to see all diplomatic paths closed, and just as always, favors resorting to peaceful methods to solve the crisis."
Iran said today that there is no difference between forwarding Iran's nuclear dossier to the UNSC, reporting the case to the Security Council, or just informing that international body of the case. These actions are interpreted as equally in collusion and hostile against Iran by those allowing or supporting such action.
Meantime, the New York Times reported that a vote on this issue at the IAEA was delayed till Saturday.
This delay may indicate lack of unanimity on this issue or the lack of agreement on tactics and strategy at this agency that has met for two days and was to vote today. Some proposals such as adding the Israeli nuclear weapons arsenal issue and a nuclear weapons free Middle East can be seen as seeing this opportunity as true leverage regarding disarming Israel's nuclear weapon, or as an opportunity to feed Iran, in essence, a sugar-coated poison pill by encouraging Iran to accept such a referral by saying nothing will happen in the short term against Iran, while it is possible that the strategy can also be both.
Vaeidi said that "Referring Iran's dossier to the Security Council in any possible way would be a historic mistake."
