Al-Thawra: Wakim says Al-Assad's popularity extends Syria
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 2/3/2006
Leader of Lebanese People's Movement Najah Wakim on Thursday said that President Bashar al-Assad is the only Arab leader whose popularity extends beyond his country.
In a statement to al-Thawra daily, Wakim added President Assad's speech in front of the Arab Lawyers Conference, held recently in Damascus, is a turning point in activating the pan-Arab steadfastness project in the face of the American project.
He pointed out that the American-Israeli project doesn't aim only at redrawing the map of the region but is targeting the Arab identity.
He called on the Lebanese parties to unify their stance in facing the American-Israeli plots, asserting that the Lebanese national resistance constitutes a main part of the strategy of defending Lebanon.
