Syria recalls ambassador in Copenhagen over insulting cartoons
Regional-Denmark, Politics, 2/2/2006

Syria has recalled on Wednesday her ambassador to Denmark to "consult about the Danish government measures against some papers insulting Prophet Mohammed and Muslims."

The Foreign Ministry has summoned the Syrian ambassador accredited in Copenhagen "for consultation and explanation of the measures taken by the Danish government against condemned insults to the personality of Prophet Mohammed that pose as violation of sanctity and holiness to hundred of millions of Arabs and Muslims," a statement to the Ministry said.

Denmark and Norway on Tuesday tried to curb the damage caused by cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed published in a Danish newspaper, while Arab interior ministers called on Denmark to firmly sanction the authors of the caricatures.
