New Iraqi coalition formed
Iraq, Politics, 2/2/2006
In another development in Iraq, al-Tawafuk ( alliance) Sunni Iraqi front led by Adnan al-Duleimi and the National Iraqi List led by the former Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi decided to be united into one bloc.
The new political block is called the "Common Council For The Sake Of National Work" in order to enhance their two positions in the negotiations to form the new government and "to leave the door open for other political entities to join, whenever they want."
The new front will have 69 seats, and that makes it the second bloc in terms of the majority in the parliament after the United Iraqi alliance led by Abdul Aziz al-Hakim which has 128 seats.
Meanwhile, the front proposed ten demands to the government to stop what it called the shedding of Iraqi blood.
Among the demands is the resignation of the minister of interior and pending missions of departments of this ministry, desolving the armed militias, halting random campaigns and releasing all detainees in the hails of the Iraqi government and the American forces. The front threatened to call for civil riot if such demands will not be met.
