Arutz Sheva: Israel investigates Azmi Bishara
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 2/1/2006
Arutz Sheva reported that "The Israeli Attorney General, Menachem Mazuz, has ordered the police to open a criminal investigation of Knesset member Azmi Bishara, head of the Arab nationalist Balad Party. The investigation centers around Bishara's trip last month to Lebanon.
Arutz Sheva reported: While in Lebanon, Bishara said of Israel in whose parliament he sits, "Return Palestine to us and take your democracy with you. We Arabs are not interested in it." In response to the decision announced today, Bishara said, "With all due respect, the attorney general, Meni Mazuz, cannot limit the freedom of movement of a Knesset member."
Arutz Sheva reported in reference to the investigation that Bishara declared: "Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, etc. are not enemy states, but Arab states, and it is impossible to be in contact with those societies without visiting them."
