Iraq at lowest oil production levels; Iraqi oil minister out

The Iraqi minister of oil Ibrahim Baher al-Oloum said that his resignation which he had submitted in December 2005 has been accepted.
A spokesman for the office of the Iraqi prime minister said that the minister of tourism Hashem al-Hashimi was appointed as a charge de affairs for the Iraqi ministry of oil, and that he had actually started his mission in succession for Ibrahim Baher al-Oloum who submitted his resignation on December 28th and was replaced by the deputy prime ministry Ahmad Chalabi.
For his part, Chalabi said he is carrying out new security measures to meet Iraq's efforts to export 1.57 million barrels daily, stressing that Iraq will meet this target.
He explained that there are certain problems in production in the south as well as in the north, but Iraq can increase its exports by 300,000 barrels daily by ensuring the north oil pipelines between Iraq and Turkey is oprational.
Iraq's oil exports decreased to 1.1 million barrels daily in December 2005, the least level since the war in Iraq.
