The Guardian: Secret US calls for Arab support of Hamas

The British daily The Guardian on Tuesday quoted western diplomats as saying that the USA contacted certain Arab states and called on them to continue financial backing for the Palestinian Authority under a government lead by Hamas.
This unstated American position is in contradiction with the declared position by the USA to boycott all aid to any Palestinian government led by Hamas, unless Hamas gives up violence according to the American understanding and Hamas recognizes Israel.
The paper attributed the reason behind the American call to Washington's fears that the shortage in financial resources in the West Bank and Gaza will lead to chaos or to resorting to asking for funds from countries like Iran or Syria.
