Doha, Riyadh call for accepting Hamas victory
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 2/1/2006
The Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Jaber al-Thani said that Hamas won the elections via ballot centers and democracy sought by the West.
For his part, the Saudi foreign minister criticized the position of the European Union regarding Hamas and its threats to cut financial aid from the Palestinians, and considered it as unrealistic, after the Europeans called for having these elections which were conducive to these results.
The Saudi foreign minister who accompanied King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz in an official visit to Malaysia stressed that Saudi Arabia will continue the same position in its capacity as the largest Arab financial supporter for the Palestinians, noting that if every and each side changes its relations with the Palestinian authority on the background of results of the elections, then a catastrophe will take place.
