Pharaonic statutes found in Luxor
Egypt, Local, 1/31/2006

Egypt's "Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni said on Monday that two statues of Sakhmet, the goddess of war, and the head of a member of the royal family, along with a head of a royal family member with Nubian features were found at the temple of Amenhotep III on the west bank of the Nile River in Luxor."

A government report noted that "the three statutes were in good condition although one of Sakhmet's statutes was footless. One of the goddess's statues is made of granite and the other of diorite .. the second statute showed Sakhmet wearing a crown with a cobra.

The report noted "The Sakhmet statues, which date back to the New Kingdom's 18th dynasty (circa 1533-1292 BC), hail from the same period as most of the finds in the area" quoting experts saying "the Nubian features of the statute, which is 20cm high, indicate that the head belongs to a Nubian king from the 25th dynasty."
