Sudan-Regional, Politics, 1/28/2006
The African Union expects the two main rebel movements in Darfur, west Sudan, to reach a peace agreement with the Sudanese government shortly, after Khartoum has shown flexibility in its position.

The Sudanese government said that the recent decision by the African Union to delay its presidency of the Union from Sudan over fears concerning Darfur had given an extra impetus for reaching a peace agreement.
Six rounds of negotiations resulted in halting fire in addition to agreements on allowing the humanitarian aid had partial impact on the ground. However, the main issues including the sharing of authority, the distribution of wealth are still the main points being seriously discussed.
