Nazif: US mistaken to exclude Egypt from free trade zone
Egypt-USA, Economics, 1/27/2006
Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif stressed "the importance of accelerating a free trade agreement with the United States, noting that Egypt is determined to open its trade to all world countries as it considers free trade as one of the fundamental principles underpinning its policy."
A government report noted that "At a press conference here, in the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Nazif said it was not the right thing that the US President George W. Bush sought to conclude free trade agreements with all Middle East countries except Egypt."
The report noted that "He said that the neighborhood policy negotiations with the EU will see a new round soon, noting that the delayed agreement was due to the nature of negotiations and pledges which both parties must make and abide by.. pointing out that the policy statement which will be announced soon will show a commitment towards social aspects within the economic reform."
