Daily Star: Hizbullah agrees to help families of Lebanese detainees in Syria
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 1/25/2006
The Lebanese daily Daily Star on Tuesday: Hizbullah has agreed to throw its political weight behind local organization SOLIDE and its efforts to secure the release of Lebanese detainees held by Syria. According to the head of Support of Lebanese in Detention and Exile, Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has "promised to raise our case with Syria," said the Lebanese daily Daily Star on Tuesday.
The Daily Star said: Aad and a small delegation from SOLIDE met with Nasrallah after the latter declared during a televised interview last week that if SOLIDE and the families of Lebanese detainees held in Syrian prisons "came to me for assistance, I would assist them in every way possible."
The Daily Star said: Syria has officially denied the existence of any Lebanese detainees in its jails, but some Syrian officials have hinted at their presence by mentioning "criminals" from Lebanon's civil war still imprisoned in Syria.
