Kuwait's leadership crisis ends with removing Sheikh Saad
Kuwait, Politics, 1/24/2006

The ruler of Kuwait Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah, who assumed the affairs of the country just one week ago, gave up his post over the controversy of him assuming leadership with his very poor health condition.

Al-Jazeera satellite TV in Kuwait said that sides of the ruling al-Sabah family reached an agreement to hand over the mission of the ruler to the prime minister Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, brother of the late Amir, who was the actual ruler of Kuwait during the few past years.

Prince Saad al-Abdullah, 76 year old, had demanded the Ummah council to convene a session for the parliament today in order to take his constitutional oath to assume his missions and then he asked again for convening it on Monday evening, but the speaker of the council Jasem al-Khurafi refused to convene the session.

The Kuwaiti cabinet started measures to impeach the new ruler of Kuwait because of his inability to practice his constitutional missions because of his "health condition." It asked in a message addressed to the parliament to convene a special session on Tuesday (today) morning to remove him from his port.

The council said it had based this message from the concept "of the Cabinet exercise of its constitutional role and according to the rules of the constitution and the law of inheritance of the Emirate for 1964."
