Iran: the world cannot deny us our right to peaceful nuclear technology

Iran's Government Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said today that world public opinion cannot shun Iran's right to conduct nuclear research.

IRNA reported him saying "Access to peaceful nuclear technology is a right and demand of the Iranian nation. Governments cannot act against national demands."

Asked about German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier's remarks in which he stressed the need to arrive at a diplomatic and not military solution to the nuclear issue, he said, "the thinking of German officials is correct because entering a non-diplomatic channel will have no legal logic."

He added that the "Islamic Republic of Iran had not violated international rules and regulations and has always had a legal and logical attitude." "Access to peaceful nuclear technology is a national call. The brave Iranian nation will not tolerate restrictions to its sovereign rights.

The government spokesman warned that "any threats coupled with overt acts against the interests of the brave Iranian nation will be playing with fire." He said that the remarks of the German foreign minister showed the country was willing to adopt a realistic policy.

"The remarks were very good, but just as they (German officials) are conscious of obligations imposed by international laws, rules and regulations they should also acknowledge the rights of nations, including the right of Iranians to peaceful nuclear energy," as provided in these rules and regulations, Elham added.
