Al-Jazeera: Continued discussions on the leadership of Kuwait
Kuwait, Politics, 1/23/2006

Al-Jazeera satellite TV said that the Ummah Council ( parliament) agreed the request of Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah to convene a session for him to take his constitutional oath as a new ruler for Kuwait.

Member of the Ummah council Walid al-Tabtabani told al-Jazeera that a date was set today, Monday evening, for the taking oath ceremony.

The chairman of the Ummah council ( Parliament) Jazem al-Khurafi had said he would meet the prince later this day ( Sunday) to discuss in this matter and discuss the current crisis of the rule after he failed to meet with him on Saturday.

Al-Jazeera quoted al-Khurafi who renewed the council had received a message from the Cabinet demanding the convening of a special session to impeach prince Saad because of his bad health condition.

The correspondent said that the Kuwaiti government did not send for the second running day its request to the Ummah council, noting that members of the ruling family are holding continued sessions amid news on a detente in the crisis.

Al-Jazeera indicated that there are no contradiction between the consent of the Ummah council to convene a session for the oath taking ceremony for prince Saad and the continued consultations of the ruling family to get out of the current crisis.
