Iranian president meets Nasrullah, Berri
Lebanon-Iran, Politics, 1/21/2006

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Friday in Damascus met with the secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah party Hassan Nasrullah.

The Iranian News agency said that Ahmadinejad described the role played by "Hizbullah in the service of steadfastness against the expansionism and aggressions of the Zionist entity, as very important."

During the meeting which took place at Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's residence in Damascus, he stressed "the message of Hizbullah in Lebanon is not a sectarian message or confined to Muslim, rather its message is the message of genuine Islam for all humanity because justice is a common case bringing people together."

The Iranian news agency explained that Nasrullah gave from his side a review on latest developments in Lebanon."

Meantime, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed during his meeting with the speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri "the importance of resistance, unity and people's peace in Lebanon," considering that resistance "is one of the best elements to the failure in implementing the attempts to perpetuate the Zionist entity in the region after the Camp David Agreement."

According to IRNA, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that "the enemy who once launched the slogan from Nile to the Euphrates, today lacks calm and security even inside its entity, and this is because of the good relations between Syria and Lebanon," adding that the "Lebanese people should use all its power and wisdom to preserve unity in Lebanon and to block the way before enemy conspiracies."

The Iranian President expressed happiness over the unity between Hizbullah and the Amal movement, considering that they are "the symbol for the victories of the Lebanese people and a front for Muslims."

For his part Berri considered "that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Syria at this critical phase in the region is very important." He said that the pressure made on Iran to prevent it from taking advantage of peaceful nuclear technology "comes directly to halt resistance in south Lebanon."

IRNA said that Berri "explained that the efforts are made to use the assassination crime of (Rafiq) al-Hariri to undermining the Lebanese unity and dismantle Lebanon from Syria." He said that "unity of the Islamic states and solidarity among the countries of the region are capable of foiling enemy conspiracies."
