Washington rejects Bin Laden truce offer
Regional-USA, Politics, 1/20/2006

The US government has rejected a truce offer proposed by the leader of al-Qaida organization Osama Bin Laden. Bin Ladin made the offer in voice recording broadcast by al-Jazeera satellite TV.

In a statement in reaction to what was states in the voice recording by the leader of al-Qaida, the spokesman for the White House Scott McClellan said that it is clear that al-Qaida leaders and other fleeing terrorists are under great pressure. "we do not negotiate with terrorists," rather seek an end to their activities.

He added that the terrorists started this war and president George W. Bush explained he will end it in the due time and place upon "our choosing", adding "we continue to pursue all those who try to inflect damage on the American people."

In this context, the US vice president Dick Cheney said that the administration of the US President George W. Bush will continue to awake to the challenge of al-Qaida organization, which he considered as representing a "grave threat" though it starting to become weaker.

Cheney who was talking to the mass media about means of fighting terrorism did not reference by name the Bin Laden audio tape.

For its part, the CIA said that the recording which al-Jazeera TV broadcasted is authentic and is the voice of Osama Bin Laden.
