American journalist Kidnappers in Iraq threaten killing her
Iraq-USA, Politics, 1/18/2006

The spokesman for the US state department Sean McCormack said that his country will make every possible effort in collaboration with the Interim iraqi government in order to release the American journalist Jill Carol as soon as possible.

The spokesman said he does not know whether Carol, 28 years old, who works for the Christian Science Monitor was the one who appeared in the tape broadcast by al-Jazeera satellite TV and abstained from giving more details including those pertinent if Washington is studying demands included in the tape.

The kidnappers who called themselves "The Groups Of Revenge" gave the American administration 72 hours as a grace period in order to release the detained Iraqi women otherwise they would kill the American journalist.

Carol's family appealed to the kidnappers in a statement issued on her paper's web on the Internet to release her and have mercy on her. The statement stressed that she, as a reporter, has in her daily reports showed sympathy with the sufferings of the Iraqi people.

The said journalist was kidnapped on January 7 in al-Adel (justice) quarters in Baghdad after her translator was killed.
