Jibril, Hizbullah criticize Junblat
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 1/16/2006
The pace of statements and counter statements have increased between Syria's opponents and its allies in Lebanon following criticism addressed by the Druze leader Walid Junblat on Saturday against Syria's allies in Lebanon.
In statements to al-Jazeera satellite TV, the secretary general of the People's Front For The Liberation Of Palestine -- General Command, Ahmad Jibril, issued unprecedented criticism against Junblat, and said that Junblat fled from the mountain area during its occupation following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1983, and that he did not follow the national line."
He added that the General Command lost 200 persons killed in order to bring back Junblat to his position during Junblat's war with the leader of the Lebanese forces Samir Jaajaa in the Mount Lebanon in the mid 1980s during the civil war.
Jibril considered that the incident which took place several days ago near a position for the General Command in al-Naema to the south of Beirut is fabricated, noting that the two employees of the municipality who were hit by the fire of one of "the General Command" members were members in the Lebanese forces which are led by Samir Jajaa.
Junblat had implied via al-Jazeera TV that some resistance weapons are "weapons of treachery", in remarks to the deepened political crisis in Lebanon following the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri in February 2005, and that Junblat and his allies are stronger, because of their political stand, than the weapons of the Syrian supported groups. Junblat' s clarification and backtracking from implicating Hizbullah in his remarks came after he was strongly criticized by Hizbullah. Junblat said his remarks were aimed more at Jibril's group.
