Sheikh Jaber eulogized, Saad al-Abdullah new ruler of Kuwait

A large funeral ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon in Kuwait for the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah who died on Sunday at dawn at 77 year old after a long struggle with disease.

The Kuwaiti Cabinet announced that the crown prince Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah has become according to the constitution the Amir of Kuwait in succession of Sheikh Jaber.

In a statement read on TV by the minister of information Anas al-Rasheed, the Kuwaiti Cabinet said that "in line with rules of the constitution and article four of law number 4 of 1964 concerning the inheritance of rule in Kuwait, the Cabinet advocated his successor crown prince Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah Salem al-Sabah to be the ruler of the country."

Navigation sources at Kuwait airport said that several Arab and Muslim leaders arrived in Kuwait to take part in the funeral of Sheikh Jaber.

The ministry of al-Awqaf and Islamic Trust announced "prayers of the absent" after Maghreb prayers in all the country's mosques. Kuwait, and moreover announced official mourning for 40 days on the demise of its ruler.

In Baghdad, the Iraqi government announced on Sunday morning three days mourning over the death of the ruler of Kuwait and said in a statement that "it received with deep sorrows news of the death of the ruler of Kuwait."

The Kingdom of Bahrain announced mourning for 40 days and to stop working in official establishments for three days mourning the Emir of Kuwait.

Worthy mentioning that Kuwait is a founding member in OPEC, enjoys one of the highest standards of living internationally despite its reliance on oil exports and the huge losses inflected on it because of the Iraqi invasion between 1990 - 1991.

Kuwait owns ten percent of the world reserves of world's crude oil or 95 billion barrels. This country which was used as a main launching point for the invasion which was led by the US against Iraq, hosts 30,000 American soldier and some 13,000 American citizens are living in Kuwait.
