US wants Iran punished for asserting its rights
Iran-USA, Politics, 1/13/2006
The US says it supports Iran being punished for moving ahead with civil nuclear research and development, because the US claims to know what Iran intends to do with such civil technology.
Iran's envoy to the UN nuclear watchdog Ali-Asghar Soltaniyeh said today that according to a bill ratified by Iran's parliament, if Iran's nuclear dossier is referred to any other international body, Iran will not remain committed either to voluntary suspension measures or to NPT Additional Protocol, IRNA reported.
Speaking to reporters after conferring with the envoys of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states, he added that though Iran always gives priority to negotiation and good understanding, the country's status is quite clear based on the ratified bill.
The US, a country that declared itself an enemy of Iran and termed the country as "evil", is being supported in its desire by some European countries in efforts to prevent Iran from aquiring and developing nuclear civil skills Iran is entitled to under current treaties. Yesterday, the EU foreign ministers discussed the referral of Iran's nuclear dossier to the United Nations Security Council, as the US and them had repeatedly threatened in the past, and have failed so far.
The US said it wants Iran referred to the UN Security Council. By Iran asserting its rights, the US Secretary Of State chooses to assert that this "demonstrates that it (Iran) has chosen confrontation with the international community over cooperation and negotiation,” US Secretary Of State Condoleezza Rice said. The US, a country that frequently speaks as a representative of world public opinion said "This was a time when Iran, I think, could see the international community coming together around a strategy," according to Rice. US efforts have spread wide and strong towards that end, with the latest being attempts to provide India, among others, all incentives and pressure to support the US position. Iran sees continued colonialism in the efforts to keep certain countries, especially strategically important countries, under their thumb. EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana called for holding an extraordinary Board of Governors meeting on referral of the case to UNSC. Iran's envoy to IAEA, stressing the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities, noted that despite the biased information so far disseminated in this respect, Iranian officials have been doing their best to ensure the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the world that the relevant technology is used for peaceful purposes.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed today that Iran would never ignore her legitimate rights on peaceful nuclear technology." Ahmadinejad said, "The super powers who build tens of nuclear powerplants annually, are trying to deprive Iran of its own legal rights."
Referring to the many benefits of nuclear energy in human life, including in medicine, agriculture and energy, the president said nuclear energy has effects on all fields of human life but the superpowers intend to monopolize the technology for their own interests.
He added, "When fossil energy is used up in the world, they will start to sell their own nuclear energy at enormous prices to other nations and also impose pressure to maintain their own dominance on the world."
The chief executive said, " The super powers are not opposed to nuclear weapons, because they have it, but they oppose to scientific advancement of other nations." According to all international laws and regulations, Iran has the right to gain access to the peaceful nuclear energy, he said.
The president reiterated Iran will follow production of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and would never be frightened by its enemies' threats.
