Al-Hurra: Qathafi: absence of old guards in Israel, Palestine is better for peace
Libya-Palestine, Politics, 1/12/2006
Libya's leader Muammar al-Qathafi considered on Monday that the old guards from both the Israeli and Palestinian political system are an obstacle to the peace process in the Middle East.
In an interview with the American "al-Hurra" TV, Qathafi said "the old guards from the two sides are not useful in solving the case, and their absence is better for solving the case, or getting rid of them." He explained that solving the Palestinian- Israeli conflict will be through the establishment of one democratic state for the Palestinians and the Israelis from "the sea to the river," in remarks to the Mediterranean in the west and the Jordan river to the east.
On whether he welcomed the death of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, Qathafi said "we do not discreet a sick man who on on his death bed."
