Jordan detains Islamic liberation party members

The Jordanian authorities detained ten members of the banned Islamic Liberation Party during the two past days.

A spokesman for the party said that the Jordanian authorities launched a campaign of arrest targeting 8 of its members on Tuesday at dawn in Amman area, giving no reason for the detention.

The spokesman explained that among the detainees is a cardiology specialist in the Jordanian university, Zakaraya Faleh, and four students at the said university in addition to two other students.

Two days earlier, the Jordanian authorities arrested two members of the banned party in a camp for the Palestinian refugees near the capital Amman.

Thereby number of persons arrested from the Liberation Party increased during the four past months to more than 30 persons, according to the same source. The last shift of this group whose members were arrested in October 2005 after the distribution of al-Waee (the conscious ) magazine issued by the party to worshippers inside mosques in Amman.

The source added that those persons were brought the state security court under the pretext of being "members in an illegal organization" and working to establishing a Kheilafa based Islamic state.

The Liberation (Al-Tahrir) Party which was formed by the Palestinian Sheikh Taqi Eddine al-Nabhani in 1953 has spread in many Arab states. It is one of the most active organizations in central Asia especially in Tagakistan and Wadi Farghani area.

This party has also a branch in Britain that remained until 1996 under Sheikh Omar Bakri who was prevented in August 2005 from staying in Britain while he was on a visit to Lebanon.

The leader of al-Tahrir party, the Jordanian Ata Abu Rishti is living in secret outside Jordan, which he had left in 1998 after he was freed from prison.
