Lebanese policemen injured by pro Syrian Palestinian group
Lebanon-Palestine, Politics, 1/10/2006
Two Lebanese policemen to the south of Beirut were injured on Tuesday by the bullets of fighters belonging to a Palestinian group that supports Syria.
The Lebanese national news agency said that members of the People's Front For The Liberation Of Palestine -- General Command opened fire at a car belong to al-Naema municipality while they were in a sit in patrol, and this resulted in injuring two of its members.
The two injured men who are members of the municipality police were admitted to a hospital in Beirut and the other to Sidon. The agency gave no details on the reason behind the incident.
News reports said that the people of the town after the incident blocked the road linking between Beirut and Sidon by burning tires in protest of the incident.
Worthy mentioning that a force from the Palestinian group has been stationed since the beginning of the 1980s in caves it dug in al-Naema mountains.
The said position which was exposed to an Israeli raid in December 2005 is considered the source of tension with the Lebanese authorities since the withdrawal of the Syrian army, because of the Lebanese government's persistence to remove Palestinian weapons existing outside the Palestinian camps.
