Al-Assad meets Mubarak on pressure Syria faces

The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with his Egyptian peer Hosni Mubarak on Sunday in Sharm esh Sheikh, Egypt, in the framework of his Arab moves to contain the increasing pressures on Syria on the background of the investigation into the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri.

No information was disclosed on the on the content of the meeting between al-Assad and Mubarak which started with a close door meeting before the two presidents and were joined by members of the two delegations

The Syrian president arrived in Egypt coming from Saudi Arabia where he met on Sunday with king Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz in the course of seeking Arab support against international pressure, including the possibility of convening an Arab summit to discuss the international pressure on Damascus.

A joint statement in conclusion of the Syrian- Saudi summit said that the Saudi king urged the Syrian president to improve relations between Damascus and Beirut in order to "preserve the security of the region."
