Iraq, Politics, 1/3/2006

Sunni Kurds and Arabs consultations are ongoing regarding the formations of an Iraq unity government. The Iraqi al-Tawafuk front and Iraq Kurdistan president Maosud al-Barazani agreed on the need to form a balanced national unity government that includes all social strata of the Iraqi people.

This was expressed in a press conference Barazani held at Salah Eddine resort in Irbil with the two members of al-Tawafuk front Tareq al-Hashimi and Adnan al-Duleimi.

For his part, the chairman of the Iraqi Islamic Party and member of the front Tareq al-Hashimi stressed that violations occurred in the elections which were held in Iraq on the mid of December 2005, adding that these violations reached the level of scandal.

For his part, Duleimi asked for the participation of the those who object to the results of the parliamentary elections, which are to be audited shortly.

The General Election Commission in Iraq stressed that the UN auditing team was to be in Baghdad on Monday (yesterday). Member of the commission Abdul Hussein al-Hindawi said that the delegation will decide the time needed for competing its work, and that will work independently, adding that announcing final election results is linked to the completion of the work of the UN audit team.

This meeting comes after other meetings Barazani held with each of Abdul Aziz al-Hakim and Ibrahim al-Jaafari.
