Egypt-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 1/3/2006

In light of the Syrian rejection to the UN Hariri murder investigation committee requests to meet Syria's president, there is an Egyptian- Saudi effort to coordinate the two states position over the Syrian situation. In this context, the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak arrived in Saudi Arabia to meet with King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.

One Saudi official asked to be anonymous said that this one day visit will discuss the Syrian position amid the current international developments concerning cooperation with the UN committee which was formed by the UN Security Council to investigate the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri.

The same official indicated that Egypt and Saudi Arabia had earlier convinced Syria to respond to the demands of the UN committee which was presided before by the German judge Detleve Mehlis.
