Turkish ambassador in Iraq wounded, 16 killed

The Turkish ambassador to Iraq, Onal Jivikoz, was slightly injured in an attack by gunmen at his procession in Baghdad.
The attack took place against the procession of the ambassador on Baghdad's airport highway which had witnessed several attacks in the past months.
Before that, the Iraqi minister of industry Osama al-Najafi survived a bomb explosion targeting his procession in Camp Sarah area in Baghdad, but the minister was not injured, while one of his guards was injured. Many of the cars in his procession were greatly damaged as a result of the attack.
In Baghdad, the Iraqi police said that a sedan car was burnt in a booby trapped car explosion targeting one American in al-Khadra quarters, west Baghdad.
An attack by a booby trapped car targeted a bus crowded with men recruited by the police in Baqouba city northeast of Baghdad resulted in killing seven of them while other 13 were reported injured.
In Alexandria, southern Baghdad, a source in the police said that gunmen killed three civilians and kidnapped one child who was with them on the highway in the city. The police also found 8 unidentified bodies in the filtration basins of al-Rustomeyah waters.
In Karkouk to the north of Baghdad, three persons were killed, including two children from one family, and the driver of an ambulance, in two separate attacks. Two Iraqi soldiers were killed in an attack by a bomb explosion targeting their vehicle on the highway in al-Dajil area.
In Beji, one soldier was killed and a colonel was injured when gunmen attacked his car on the highway between Tikrit and Beji.
For its part, the Iraqi army announced the detention of 70 suspects in a breaking in and inspection campaign carried out in support of the multinational forces north of Baghdad.
In another development, the American army announced the killing of four of what it called the American contractors on Sunday, in a traffic incident near al-Assad air base west of Baghdad.
