Sawaseyah: Jordanian authorities expelled Syrian workers
Syria-Jordan, Politics, 12/31/2005

The Syrian human rights organization, Sawaseyah, accused Jordan of having unfairly expelled hundreds of Syrian workers.

In a statement, the organization said that the Jordanian authorities "recently proceeded with the unjust arrest and expulsion of hundreds of Syrian workers in a humiliating way and under false pretexts."

The statement also criticized the Syrian authorities of failing to provide adequate work opportunities to its own workers. The organization's board chairman Muhannad al-Hassani said that the collective expulsion of Syrian workers is a political issue linked to foreign parties," adding that this action is against international human rights norms."

He explained that as a result of such practices "More than a thousand Syrian workers were expelled from Jordan in recent weeks. They were all summoned by judicial authorities who demanded their immediate and simultaneous departure of Jordan," Hassani indicated.
