20 Iraqi prisoners killed by police
Iraq, Politics, 12/29/2005

Some 20 Iraqi prisoners were killed in bloody clashes with the police forces in a military base, called "justice camp", in the capital Baghdad.

Security sources said that 6 prison guards were killed in the clashes which erupted after one prisoner took a weapon from one of the guards.

Statements by the Iraqi police officers were contradictory over the number of death, as sources at the ministry of interior said that 15 persons were killed in confrontations following an escape attempt, while other sources said that the number is only eight.

The pace of tension increased in various Iraqi prisons after disclosing a new torture scandal of several Arab Sunni prisoners in one of the jails which falls under the control of the ministry of interior.
