Sharaa underlines Syria's cooperation with new UN investigator to Hariri murder
Syria-Lebanon-UN, Politics, 12/29/2005
Syria's Foreign Minister Farouq al-Sharaa said on Wednesday that Syria has underlined she will cooperate to the largest extent with the UN Investigation on the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri and its new head.
"Syria will coordinate to reach to a protocol of coordination that defines cooperation and its limits as well how to indicate that Syria has fully cooperated to comfort our people in Syria," Sharaa said, noting that it was not in the commission's interest but to ink a protocol in which all rights and duties of each party are clarified and to give credibility to the commission's action.
Speaking at a meeting of leaderships of the National Progressive Front branch, Sharaa said that Syria considers Lebanon as a whole and seeks to boost its national unity which has been her aim since she entered Lebanon calling not to misuse these accomplishments that are in Lebanon's and Syria's interests.
"What is contrived against Lebanon is also manufactured against Syria. There is no contradiction in interests with Lebanon where most Lebanese support building good ties with Syria. These ties are not linked neither to an army presence nor to security but rather to history and geography as well to human extension and they are stronger than any other considerations," he said.
On Palestine, Foreign Minister said that Syria was working and helping in any effort to accomplish the national unity and boost the Palestinian people rights Sharaa announced that Syria was working to build good and strategic ties with France in spite of those standing as an obstruction in this respect "under unexplained pretexts" pointing out to the "good and distinctive ties with Turkey and Russia as well other friendly states to boost and consolidate them."
Foreign Minister Sharaa said "the national unity in Syria is the basis of our strength and it was she that makes the National Progressive Front a framework of political action joining all sons of Syria."
Sharaa described circumstances that Syria passed through during the last five years as" the most difficult in the world history and not only Syria and the region," saying that "Syria resisted in a historical way by being most flexible and not relinquishing any of her national and pan-Arab principles and this is considered as a big achievement."
The Foreign Minister lashed out at "the new world order that disregards the UN charter and national sovereignty of many states as well the absenteeism of international concordance." "This order does not succeed .. we see its failure in Iraq and the Arab-Israeli conflict settlement, in addition to making up between the United States of America and Europe, as well as the inking of many international pacts," he said.
