Berri: Pressure on Syria, Lebanon are not new
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 12/29/2005
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri underlined Wednesday that the current pressures on Syria and Lebanon are not new; pointing out that the US campaign against Syria began before the assassination that claimed the life of Lebanese ex-Premiere Rafiq al-Hariri.
The US congress had issued a law demanding sanctions against Syria before the assassination of Hariri, Berri said, in a statement in the final meeting of the first session of Arab Transitional Parliament at Arab League headquarters in the Egyptian capital.
He also stressed the deep-rooted relations connecting Syria and Lebanon, pointing out that some mistakes enabled those who hate Syria and Lebanon to create a gab between the two states.
Berri expressed astonishment at the campaign led by some Lebanese sides against Arab League Secretary-General, Amr Mousa and the role of the Arab League to calm down situations between Syria and Lebanon.
He underlined that the only solution for the current situation in the regional area is to reveal the truth about the assassination of Lebanese Hariri and to take a unified stance to protect the Lebanese resistance as well as to strengthen the Syrian-Lebanese bilateral relations.
