Egyptian cotton exports up

"Egyptian cotton export contracts since the beginning of the 2005/06 export season 10 weeks ago, reached 1,215,300 kantars of hair cotton, at over dollars 139.2 million,"said Mohamad El-Shiwi, Chairman of the International Trade Point and Government Commissioner at the Cotton Export Federation, a government report noted.

the report noted "Demand on Egyptian cotton increased in the world market as a result of a drop of about 16 percent in world cotton production and 38 percent depletion in world cotton stocks."

Shiwi was reported saying " this ultimately led to an increase by about 50 percent in cotton prices on both domestic and international markets, compared to cotton prices at the beginning of the season."
