Al-Oweis prize to Syrian poet and writer al-Maghout

The Syrian well-Known poet and Playwright Mohammed al-Maghout has won the Poetry Prize of Sultan bin Ali al-Oweis Culture Establishment in Dubai. The prize is estimated at $ 120,000.
In a statement to the press on Tuesday, Secretary General of the Establishment Abdul Hamid Ahmad said that al-Maghout is one of those who participated in drawing the map of the Arab poetry and in developing the prose poem.
He pointed out to al-Maghout poetic, prose and drama works as consisting one coherent intellectual unit.
Al-Maghout was born in Salamiya, eastern Hama province in 1934. His first poetic collection was "Sadness in Moon Light" published in 1959.
He wrote a number of famous plays like "Tishrin Village" and Ghorba (Expatriation).
