American army releases senior former Iraqi officials
In a remarkable development, Iraqi sources said that the American army released 24 to 25 senior former Iraqi officials, noting that among the released were Huda Salewh Mahdi Ammash, member of the dissolved Baath Party regional leadership, former higher education minister Humam Abdul Haleq and former minister of transport Ahmad Murtada.

Al-Assad is in Cairo today
A source in the Egyptian presidency said on Monday that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will visit Cairo today to hold talks with his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak dealing with relations between Syria and the west, and the tension between Damascus and Beirut.

Three Iraqi officials escaped assassination attempt
Three Iraqi officials on Monday survived three assassination attempts. In al-Andalus quarters in the center of Basra, the advisor for the Iraqi defense minister Majid al-Sari survived an assassination attempt from a bomb explosion targeting his vehicle. Three members of the protection force of the Iraqi official were injured in this explosion.

1.25 million children beyond reach of aid in Sudan's Darfur
Every day more than 3 million children are affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan's Darfur region, threatened by malnutrition, illness and violence, with 1.25 million of them beyond the reach of help because of insecurity, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned today in a new report.
